me

Welcome to my natural history blog!

I'm a coastal wetland ecologist professionally, but I have pretty broad interests ranging from ocean sciences to desert and forest ecosystems to biodiversity. This blog is an informal way to share my interests in nature and science, specific outdoors adventures, and my nature photography. I know more about plants and algae than other organisms, so botany is a major focus for the blog, including occasional entries in a series titled "incredible plants".

I was an undergraduate at UC Santa Cruz (marine biology) and then completed my PhD at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. I've spent the majority of my life living, working, and adventuring along the west coast of the US.
